Thaumatrope - An Eastern quoll

$50.00

Eastern Quoll thaumatrope.

Louise Jennison, 2007.

An original work as exhibited in A trapdoor in everyroom.

A double sided circular drawing, one of 52 thaumatropes in total created. Each thaumatrope (turning marvel or wonder turner) when spun creates the whole image. When viewed in motion, this handsome pink-nosed Eastern quoll will appear in its natural habitat, seen as all nature ought be seen, in the wild.

On one side you will find the afore mentioned quoll with his spotted markings, and on the reverse you will see a clearing.

(A thaumatrope is an early optical illusion toy popular in Victorian times. When the strings are twirled with speed between the fingers the two images on either side of the circle appear to merge into a single image due to persistence of vision. Play a little here.)

(An Eastern quoll is a delicately built marsupial who is known to be an opportunistic omnivore and is primarily nocturnal. This solitary creature can be found in Tasmania in the open forest, scrubland and heath.)

Watercolour and pencil on Aquarelle Arches 100% pure cotton hot pressed 300gsm paper. With string attached at either end.

Artwork size 9.5 cm in diameter.
