Thaumatrope - Two grey parrots

$50.00

Grey parrot thaumatrope.

Louise Jennison, 2007.

An original work as exhibited in A trapdoor in everyroom.

A double sided circular drawing, one of 52 thaumatropes in total created. Each thaumatrope (turning marvel or wonder turner) when spun creates the whole image. When viewed in motion, these two grey parrots will appear in their habitat, seen as all nature ought be seen, in the wild.

On one side you will find the two afore mentioned parrots, and on the reverse you will see a blue sky landscape.

(A thaumatrope is an early optical illusion toy popular in Victorian times. When the strings are twirled with speed between the fingers the two images on either side of the circle appear to merge into a single image due to persistence of vision. Play a little here.)

Watercolour and pencil on Aquarelle Arches 100% pure cotton hot pressed 300gsm paper. With string attached at either end.

Artwork size 9.5 cm in diameter.
