A medium-sized, fetching pair of wooden bats created for Secrets of the Photocopier (a recent exhibition at platform, Melbourne).
These Egyptian fruit bats from the family pteropodidae seek a new home now that the exhibition has drawn to a close. Both are inseparable, one of a kind, and made by completely by hand. Cut and shaped with the aid of a jigsaw and a piece of sandpaper, from MDF. Painted in white, front, sides and back, they are designed to hang on a wall or prop artfully against a nearby form. All markings have been drawn on by hand with a beloved black felt tip pen.
A countersunk hole on the reverse side ensures these wooden loves can be hung, with seeming ease, on a wall.
All animals come well wrapped to ensure they arrive safe and sound.
Bat proportions (small):
10 cm (H) X 26 cm (W) X 1.2 cm (D)
Bat proportions (large):
17 cm (H) X 39 cm (W) X 1.2 cm (D)
Bat particulars:
The Egyptian fruit bat is unusual among bats in having fur that extends about halfway along each forearm. It also relies upon high-pitched echolocation clicks to enable it to find its way and roost in dark caves.
Catch a glimpse of them in their original habitat here.
